The Merry Widow, my older woman/younger man Victorian romance just received a 5 star review from Just Erotic Romance Rewiew…and I’m tickled pink even though I’ve recently discovered readers final decision to buy a book isn’t necessarily due to a good or bad book. It still feels great, since I haven’t been able to recieve anything higher than a 4 from them.

Here’s a snippet:

Phillipa is lonely and decides to risk it all and hire a “gentleman” friend. After a brief meeting with the town Madam, Phillipa waits for her new friend to arrive. Reggie arrives at Phillipa’s home to talk business but was instead escorted to her bedroom. After a brief encounter both realize they want more but are the costs too high; Reggie is her competition and Phillipa is 10 years his senior. Can Phillipa go against the norm and her own fears to find love again?

The Merry Widow was enjoyable and fun to read. Phillipa was a wonderful character; she had accepted her husband’s death and was determined to move on with her life. She takes control and satisfies her desires….

I was just on the author loop for Red Sage and found out that my April 1st release, THE MERRY WIDOW has already received a review from Sarah Silversmith of Romance Reader’s Connection!
Hope it intrigues people enough to buy it (wink). This story is the first story I’ve written that didn’t contain any paranormal elements. I really enjoyed writing it however. The heroine was joy to write with her exotic looks inherited from an East Indian grandmother and her popensity for going against the grain.

Here’s a snippet of the review:

In THE MERRY WIDOW, Koko Brown writes a short, hot, historical story that is sure to titillate most readers. Mrs. Phillipa Jones is a widow running her late husband’s shipping company in late 20th century England. It has not always been the easiest thing to do, but she has managed admirably since his death. She has competition from a lot of quarters, but Lord Bellomont has been hounding the company’s doors trying to discuss business with her for weeks. She has politely rebuffed his business advances, but he has been doggedly persistent.

On a personal level, Phillipa has been lonely. Risking her reputation, but not knowing where else to turn, she procures the services of a male companion. The relationship is not necessarily sexual, she just wants some companionship. In a case of mistaken identity, Reggie, Lord Bellomont finds himself being escorted into Phillipa’s parlor.

These two find the sparks ignite immediately, but there are so many obstacles to overcome. Phillipa is looking for a paramour, not a husband and definitely not a hired lover. Add to that, Reggie is so young, it looks like she is robbing the cradle. Reggie, for his part, is a rake through and through. With this case of mistaken identity and a relationship based on subterfuge, he does not know how to make it right. These two lovers have their work cut out for them.

I just received my cover for The Merry Widow, a historical erotic novella which will be released Spring of 2009 through Red Sage Publishing.

I…Love…It!

In fact this is the first time I instantly loved a cover without it having to grow on me. Key aspects of the book are featured such as the exoticness of the heroine, her wearing of a merry widow (corset) to evoke the time period and her marital status. And the couch where the hero and heroine’s first love scene takes place.

Well, here it is…

So what do you think?

If you would like to read an excerpt of the book I have posted one on my author website.

Hey gang I was recently interviewed by Romance Junkies and they posted it today! Here is a snippet of it:

Hi Koko, and welcome! I am so glad you could join us here atRomanceJunkies. To start, will you please tell us a little bit about your current projects?

First off I would like to say how happy I am to be doing this interview! It wasn’t too long ago that I was a reader coming to your sight trying to find reviews for books I was interested in buying. My current project is a recently released erotic interracial romance published through Loose-Id entitled FROZEN IN TIME. The story is about a young woman who yearns for more in life and unfortunately her wish comes true when she’s used as a pawn of revenge by the Norse god of mischief Loki who sends her back in time to steal a necklace from a Viking warlord. I also have a historical novella involving mistaken identities and a May/December romance coming out this winter from Red Sage. It’s entitled THE MERRY WIDOW.

Do you edit as you write, or finish the first draft and then begin editing?
I hate to say I edit as I write. I hate that I do this because I’ve found this slows me down in the initial writing phase because I found I tend to rewrite a passage or sentence over and over before I feel I have it right and finally move on.
